Explaining AI to Patients and Consent

After spending the last five years explaining AI in healthcare use cases to policymakers, it is more than timely that technology developers and health systems are working on explaining those use cases to patients. Health literacy meets digital literacy on this one and while many patients are familiar with digital assistants (hello Siri, Alexa, Bixby, et al), explaining how an AI-enabled tool is reviewing and making conclusions about patient data isn't exactly the same as asking Alexa about COVID-19 symptoms (just an example). But how and when to disclose to patients that an AI tool is reviewing their data and assisting in decisions?
